Kindly provide us with a financial offer for chemical cleaning and application of protective filming chemicals for the chilled water supply and return pipelines.

These pipelines are located in “Cairo Festival City” infrastructure project, this is a project developed by Al-Futtaim and we as the cost consultant would like to present and nominate your offer to the client and the contractor to be studied.

The pipeline is made of carbon steel and a flow of 3*7400 gpm, the total internal volume of the pipeline is 3000 m³. kindly note that your offer shall include the portable pumps that will be used to thrust the cleaning agents in the pipeline.

Please find the attached specs and exact dimensions of the pipeline. I will send you the total pipeline layout drawing as soon as it is issued.

Dear General Dr Bahaa,

Thank you for your swift reply. This pipeline haven’t been used yet so we need the first flushing and cleaning to remove oil, grease, concrete and weld wastes from the pipelines and the protective, anti-corrosion and filming treatment too.

The problem is that the specifications provided by the designer (Shaker consultancy group) doesn’t specify the duration of the periodic maintenance whether it is yearly or every 6 months but let’s assume yearly maintenance.

As for the entrances it has multiple entrances, so you can divide them to the loops you want.

3.05 CHEMICAL TREATMENT

A. CHEMICAL CLEANING

1. All water systems shall be thoroughly flushed out first with water, the strainers cleaned
and then with the approved cleaning chemicals to remove pipe dope, slushing
compounds, cutting oils, and other loose extraneous materials

The cleaning chemicals shall be added by the mechanical trade.

The chemical supplier shall instruct as to the proper feed rates, shall check that the cleaning solution is actually in each system, shall instruct the contractor as to when to flush the system and shall check each system following flushing to insure all cleaning chemicals have been removed from each system.

The mechanical trade shall block open all modulating valves, zone valves and all other
system restrictions.

If building pumps are not available, this trade shall provide portable
pumps to circulate water for cleaning purposes.

2. Chemical used for cleaning of systems shall comply with the recommendations of the
manufacturers of the major components in the system.

3. A certificate of cleaning by the cleaning chemical supplier and Contractor shall be supplied
to the Architect.

4. Following system flushing, upon initial fill, the approved chemicals which provide a
protective coating are to be added to prevent oxidation of the piping system.

B. CLOSED SYSTEM TREATMENT SYSTEM

1. Provide a 45 liter shot (pot type) feeder for each separate closed system.
2. The feeder shall
have:

Inlet opening (13 mm NPT)

Outlet opening (13 mm NPT)

Bottom drain with drain valve

Mounting bracket

Top opening for chemical addition 50 mm minimum Pressure test as required

2. Install feeder in a two valve bypass arrangement around the most convenient circulating
pumps.

13 mm NPT feeder lead-in line shall be taken from the circulating line on the
discharge side of the pump.

13 mm NPT feeder outlet line shall run to the circulating line on
the suction side of the pump.

3. Provide one year supply of non-chromate chemical treatment to control corrosion.

3.06 REDUNDANT SERVICES

A. Remove completely all utilities associated with services to be made redundant as
noted on the drawings.

B. Re-instate by backfilling, compacting and grading as required under Section
02221 for the particular areas.

3.07 INSTALLATION

A. Trenching, bedding, backfilling and compacting shall be accordance with SECTION
0-2Q"i, EARTH WORKS

B. Concrete work shall be in accordance with Division 3. CONCRETE

3.08 MECHANICAL JOINTS

A. Mechanical joints shall be made in accordance with Appendix A of ANSI and'
AWWA CI II and the manufacturer's instructions.

Thoroughly clean and lubricate the joint surfaces and rubber gasket with soapy water before assembly.

Bolts shall be tightened to the specified torques. Under no conditions shall extension wrenches or pipe over handle of ordinary ratchet wrench be used to secure greater leverage
